The Family Court Division of  the 16^th Judicial Circuit for Jackson County, Missouri will take appropriate steps to ensure that communication with litigants, participants, jurors and members of the public with disabilities are effective. No qualified individual with a disability will be excluded, by reason of such disability from participation in or be denied the benefits of the services, programs or activities of the Court or be subjected to discrimination by the Court.

Parking

There are two designated court parking lots at the Family Court.  Parking Lot A is directly across the street from the main entrance and is designated as Employee parking with two designated handicapped parking spaces.  Parking Lot B is to the West of parking lot A and is designated for visitor parking with two designated handicapped spaces.  Both parking lots are wheelchair accessible. There is free parking in front and on adjacent streets, but is limited to 2 hours and is strictly enforced by the Kansas City Parking Control Section. .  Five city provided handicapped parking spaces are available on the west Cherry street side of the building for use as available.  Curb cuts are provided at crosswalks

Wheelchair Accessible Entries

The main entrance to the court building is a wheelchair accessible entry for the Family Court building and is located on the north side of the building off E. 26^th street. Automatic handicapped doors are provided.  Handicapped access to this entrance is available from the west Cherry street side and signs are provided to direct persons to this location.

Access to the Detention Center is located on the west Cherry street side and is a secure controlled entrance. This entrance is wheelchair accessible but is not equipped with an  automatic handicapped opener.

Both of these entrances are equipped with elevators which are marked in brail for the visually impaired.

Wheelchair Accessible Restrooms

Public restrooms, located in the  court waiting area,  have been designed to meet ADA requirements and are wheelchair accessible.  Restroom doors are equipped with automatic assist door openers.

All four courtrooms are handicapped accessible.
